The Medical Women Association of Nigeria, MWAN has urged the federal government to put an end to the abduction of health workers across the country.
The national president of the association Prof Rosemary Ogu made the call at a news conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
She frowned at the alarming trend of kidnappers targeting medical practitioners who dedicated their lives to serving others.
The MWAN president questioned why health workers become targets for criminals
MWAN cried that they were being overworked, underpaid and overlooked. They said that the health sector is being desecrated.
The body condemned the kidnap of the 25 medical students who were kidnapped around Benue State and others, calling for their unconditional release.
Prof. Ogu said the kidnap of medical doctors and students is not just unacceptable, but unbearable.
The medical women called for Global Action to address the increasing violence against medical professionals in the country.
