The Nigerian Senate has expressed shock over the death of over 100 people who were burnt to death while scooping fuel from a fallen truck near Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
The Senate equally called in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to surviving victims of the explosion.
It also urged the National Orientation Agency to carryout adequate sensitization on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen trucks.
The Upper Legislative Chamber reached these resolutions on Wednesday after a debate on a motion sponsored by the Senator representing Jigawa North, Babangida Hussein.
In a remark, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio warned Nigerians on the dangers in scooping fuel when such accidents occur.
The Senate’s response underscores the urgent need for national action to prevent similar tragedies and save lives.
