Nigeria’s Federal Government says that the SAMOA agreement it signed with the European Union is a broad cooperation agreement on education, food security, water and sanitation, culture and others, but nothing to do with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, otherwise known as LGBTQ, as being reported in a section of the media.
This was made known at a press conference organised by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, where the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris vowed that the federal government would use every lawful means to seek redress in the court of law over alleged misrepresentation of facts in the SAMOA report in a section of the media.
Idris cautioned that the government will not take fake news and disinformation and any attempt to incite the public against a legitimate government will not be tolerated.
He disclosed that the Federal Government has decided to formally complain to the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria over alleged irresponsible reporting.
He assured that the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has refrained from taking draconian actions against infractions from the media.
