The plight of Pensioners in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria is receiving major attention.

The Borno State Government in Nigeria’s Northeast has officially announced a major verification exercise aimed at ensuring that pension payments go only to legitimate beneficiaries.

The initiative, which targets both state and local government pensioners, will use technology to cross-check and document the status of pensioners across the state, identifying both living and deceased pensioners.

Governor Babagana Zulum through the Head of Service, Barrister Mallam Fannami emphasized that this exercise is critical to eliminate the waste of public funds through ongoing payments to deceased pensioners, which has reportedly drained the state’s resources over the years.
