Boko Haram members have reportedly killed four farmers in Kirawa, a border town in Gwoza local government area of Nigeria’s Borno State.

The incident, which caused tension in the community, occurred Thursday evening when the farmers were attacked at their farmlands.

Bukar  Umar Aji, councillor of Kirawa Jimini Ward and Speaker of Gwoza Local Government Council, described the incident as “a sad day” and called on security agencies to protect the people.

“This is a devastating blow to our community,” Mr. Aji said. “We urge the security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safety of our people.”

Yakubu Mabba Ali, Chairman of Kirawa Development Association, also condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric” and urged the government to take decisive action to end the insurgency.
The attack is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks on rural communities in Borno State, which has been ravaged by insurgency for over a decade.

The Nigerian military has been battling Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East region, but the group continues to carry out attacks on civilians and military targets.
