U.S. investment giant Vanguard has partnered with the University of Toronto to establish multiple artificial intelligence labs focused on financial innovation. This collaboration aims to push forward cutting-edge AI research specifically tailored for investors and the financial services industry.
The labs will be staffed by university professors, post-doctoral fellows, and students working alongside Vanguard’s Toronto-based AI research team. The initiative emphasizes developing AI systems that are ethical, capable of natural human interaction, and equipped with autonomous decision-making functions.
Vanguard plans to expand its AI workforce through this partnership, adding approximately 70 new members to bring the total AI team to 90. The initiative leverages the University of Toronto’s long-standing expertise in AI, a field trailblazed by professor emeritus Geoffrey Hinton.
