USDA Restores Climate Change-Related Webpages After Lawsuit from Farm and Environmental Groups

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has begun restoring climate change-related webpages that had been removed since the Trump administration took office. This move follows a lawsuit filed by farm and environmental groups, including the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Environmental Working Group.

In January, the USDA was instructed to take down materials related to climate change, including information about loan and funding opportunities, the Inflation Reduction Act’s investments, and policy documents. The removal of these resources left farmers with fewer tools to address climate-related challenges such as droughts, wildfires, and extreme weather events.

On Monday, the USDA confirmed in court filings that it would restore the deleted pages, with the process expected to be completed within two weeks. By Tuesday, some pages detailing clean energy projects funded by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) had already been reinstated.

Earthjustice, representing the plaintiffs, emphasized the importance of these resources for farmers. Jeffrey Stein, associate attorney with Earthjustice, stated, “Farmers depend on USDA’s websites to protect their farms from droughts, wildfires, and extreme weather.”
