The close-knit community of Trail, B.C., is in shock and mourning after Lindsay Danchella, a well-loved local nurse, was killed on the front lawn of a Montrose home earlier this week. The 44-year-old’s estranged husband, Donald James Danchella, has been charged with second-degree murder following her death. According to the RCMP, Lindsay suffered fatal injuries during an alleged assault and later died in the hospital.

The incident unfolded as Lindsay, who was dedicated to her two-year-old son, visited the Montrose residence of her estranged husband to facilitate a custody exchange. A close friend, Heather Wiley, revealed that Lindsay had endured abuse in her relationship, noting the shock and disbelief within the community over such a tragic and violent outcome. Wiley described her friend as a generous soul, loved by her colleagues at the Kiro Wellness Centre, where a vigil was held in her memory.

Lindsay’s compassionate nature left an indelible mark on those who knew her. She was known for organizing potlucks and sharing treats with her colleagues, bringing warmth and kindness to her workplace and community. Speaking at the vigil, Heather Wiley shared that Lindsay was “the giver” in her world, someone who gave love and support to everyone around her.

The tragic event has spurred calls for action and awareness regarding domestic violence in the Trail community and beyond. Friends and community members are determined to turn their grief into meaningful change, advocating for stronger protections for women and systemic reforms to prevent such tragedies.
