{"id":384,"date":"2024-07-18T03:04:35","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T03:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swifteradio.com\/update\/?p=384"},"modified":"2024-07-18T03:04:35","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T03:04:35","slug":"edo-politics-house-of-assembly-appeals-judgement-reinstating-shaibu-as-deputy-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swifteradio.com\/update\/edo-politics-house-of-assembly-appeals-judgement-reinstating-shaibu-as-deputy-governor\/","title":{"rendered":"Edo Politics: House of Assembly Appeals Judgement Reinstating Shaibu As Deputy Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Edo State House of Assembly has appealed the judgement by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which set aside the impeachment of the state\u2019s former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lawmakers have also filed a stay of execution on the judgment pending appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justice Omotosho had earlier today voided Shuaibu\u2019s impeachment as the deputy governor of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Omotosho, while delivering judgment in the suit, ordered that Shaibu be reinstated to office because the state House of Assembly did not follow due process in impeaching him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also voided the appointment of the new deputy governor who replaced Shaibu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crisis between Governor Obaseki and Shaibu began when he indicated interest in succeeding his boss. Shaibu and nine others contested the party&#8217;s primaries against Obaseki\u2019s preferred candidate, Asue Ighodalo who eventually picked the ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philip Shaibu was impeached as deputy governor by the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, April 8, following the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the Chief Judge of the State to probe allegations of misconduct against the former deputy governor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon the impeachment of Shaibu, the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki appointed Marvellous Omobayo as his deputy to complete his second tenure in office which ends on November 11, 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: PUNCH Online\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Edo State House of Assembly has appealed the judgement by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which set aside the impeachment of the state\u2019s former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
