Several more top members of the Democratic party have added their voices to calls for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the US Presidential election coming up in November.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a group call with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, four congressmen came up with reasons why Biden should step aside, according to CBS News.<\/span><\/p>\n

The congressmen were reportedly joined by others who expressed concerns about Biden’s fitness for office after a dismal debate performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

President Biden has vowed not to quit, and has enjoyed the support of other Democrats who believe he is the man to defeat Donald Trump in November’s vote.<\/span><\/p>\n

As lawmakers return to Capitol Hill on Monday, scrutiny on Biden’s candidacy is expected to intensify.<\/span><\/p>\n

President Biden will also be in the news in the days ahead as he hosts a summit in Washington for leaders of Nato countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

American media reports slightly diverged on which Democratic representatives said what during the private conversation with Mr Jeffries on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Multiple media outlets cited people on the call as saying that Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano and Adam Smith all said President Biden should step aside.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Morelle joined in the conversation, according to CBS and the New York Times, but the Associated Press reported that the fourth person was Jim Himes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Others expressed worries about Biden’s electoral chances against Trump. The representatives were yet to make their comments public.<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been increased concerns about Biden’s age after last month’s televised debate with Donald Trump, in which the president stumbled over some answers or appeared to lose his train of thought.<\/span><\/p>\n

Various explanations were made by the Democrats for Biden’s poor showing, including that the president had a cold and was exhausted by travel.<\/span><\/p>\n
