In a recent video shared by <em>New York Magazine<\/em>, current and former cast members opened up about their first big purchases\u2014and modest paychecks\u2014after landing their roles on the legendary show.<\/p>\n<p>Pete Davidson, who starred on <em>SNL<\/em> from 2014 to 2022, offered a candid take on the starting salary. \u201cDo you guys know what they pay us?\u201d Davidson joked. \u201cIt\u2019s like three grand an episode. I think I got dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The revelations didn\u2019t stop there. Cheri Oteri, known for her time on the show in the 1990s, splurged on a couch she cherished so much that she refused to part with it, even after numerous reupholstering. \u201cA designer came over in tears,\u201d Oteri shared, recounting how she fiercely defended her beloved couch with the line, \u201cNot today, Satan. The coach is staying. You\u2019re going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bowen Yang, a current cast member, and <em>SNL<\/em> alum Julia Louis-Dreyfus had a shared indulgence: shoes. Yang opted for Gucci, while Louis-Dreyfus confessed her splurge\u2014a $75 pair\u2014was a significant step up at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Sudeikis, a writer-turned-performer during his decade-long tenure from 2003 to 2013, echoed Davidson\u2019s sentiment about the modest paychecks. \u201cYou don\u2019t make enough money to make big purchases,\u201d Sudeikis explained. \u201cNew York rent was probably the biggest purchase I made after writing my first year on <em>SNL<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the modest early pay,\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Saturday Night Live&#8217;s cultural impact and career-launching power <\/span>remain unmatched.
