The law makes French the sole language of communication for public institutions in many circumstances.

The election authority said it asked Quebec’s commissioner of the French language for an exception that would allow the printed materials to be distributed bilingually. The request was rejected.

The documents will include a QR code directing voters to Élections Québec’s website, where information is available in English. Élections Québec also says eligible anglophones and Indigenous people can contact the agency to request information in English.

However, the agency says the short campaign period means it cannot now reprint and redistribute the physical documents in English.

The decision has become a political issue during the election campaign. Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette said she is discussing the situation with Élections Québec to determine what options remain.

Other party leaders have also weighed in. Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said he opposes institutional bilingualism but argued that voters should have access to essential information in English when exercising a fundamental democratic right.

Québec solidaire parliamentary leader Ruba Ghazal raised particular concerns about seniors and other voters who may not have reliable internet access or may struggle to use digital platforms.

The controversy comes as Quebec prepares for a closely watched provincial election. The province is scheduled to vote on Oct. 5, with the Parti Québécois currently leading several public opinion polls.

Élections Québec says voters should receive their information cards by Sept. 18, giving electors details about voting arrangements ahead of election day.

The dispute has renewed debate over the balance between Quebec’s efforts to protect and promote the French language and the need to ensure that all eligible voters can easily access information necessary to participate in the democratic process.

For now, Élections Québec says the printed documents will remain French-only, while English-language voting information will primarily be available through its website and upon request for eligible voters.

swifteradio.com/update/

Élections Québec says it is too late to change voter information documents that are already being…

[370
5522,4403,3785,2718,7755,7368,5573,7757,7759,7761,7763,7765,7767,7769,7712,7770,7772,7375,7774,7776,7778,7779,3237,7382,7383,7386,7781
post-23735","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics","tag-aaprec","tag-breaking-news","tag-canada-news","tag-canadian-politics","tag-charter-of-the-french-language","tag-christine-frechette","tag-election-news","tag-elections-quebec","tag-elections-quebec-voting-information","tag-english-speaking-quebecers","tag-english-voter-information-quebec","tag-french-language-quebec","tag-french-only-voter-documents","tag-oct-5-2026-quebec-election","tag-paul-st-pierre-plamondon","tag-quebec-anglophones","tag-quebec-democracy","tag-quebec-election-2026","tag-quebec-election-documents","tag-quebec-english-voters","tag-quebec-language-law","tag-quebec-language-legislation","tag-quebec-news","tag-quebec-politics","tag-quebec-provincial-election","tag-ruba-ghazal","tag-voting-rights-quebec
https://www.ctvnews.ca/resizer/v2/APFWDBFZJJKVJSC77NEKLOYWSE.jpg?smart=true&auth=58f2c2a191b25ec1046cfda5d9eb56a41490bfd3cfb94ab851d1932b25f3f93f&width=1200&height=630
["GET
