This shift comes after a challenging season where Jones was benched and demoted to the third-string quarterback as the Giants recorded just two wins in their first 10 games.<\/p>\n
\u201cDaniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way,\u201d Mara said, expressing appreciation for Jones\u2019 contributions. The 27-year-old quarterback hinted at his departure on Thursday, acknowledging his mixed tenure with the Giants: \u201cThere have been some great times, but of course, we all wish there had been more of those,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI take full responsibility for my part in not bringing more wins.\u201d Despite his determination and effort, Jones admitted that the season\u2019s outcome was disappointing.<\/p>\n

Jones now faces waivers, but it\u2019s unlikely a team will claim him given the remaining $11.8 million owed in 2024 under his four-year, $160 million contract. NFL teams interested in signing him would need to absorb that guaranteed amount. The Giants originally drafted Jones from Duke as the second quarterback in the 2019 draft class, just after Kyler Murray. Over 70 games with the Giants, Jones compiled a 24-45-1 record, and he tore his ACL in 2023. Still, the quarterback remains optimistic, saying, \u201cI\u2019m excited for the next opportunity. I know there is a lot of good football in front of me, and I\u2019m excited about that.<\/p>\n
