A fascinating piece of Canadian national park history emerged at Point Pelee National Park: a set of metal entry badges from 1939 to 1940. These vintage badges, adorned with a beaver emblem, were once affixed to vehicle grilles, allowing gate attendants to identify authorized park visitors quickly.<\/p>\n

Back in 1940, a season pass like this cost just one dollar, and variations of the badge existed based on region; Western Canadian parks, for example, featured a bison instead of a beaver. Crafted from aluminum and copper, these durable badges were later discontinued as metals were redirected toward the war effort in the 1940s.<\/p>\n
