Dubbed <strong>ONSAT<\/strong> (Ontario Satellite Internet), this initiative will utilize SpaceX\u2019s Starlink satellite network to connect 15,000 underserved homes and businesses, announced Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese communities will soon have reliable, high-speed internet, enabling them to access streaming, video calls, online gaming, and other essential services,\u201d Surma stated, emphasizing the program&#8217;s impact on digital equity. The system, set to launch in June, will cover equipment and installation costs for eligible residents, with registration beginning in the spring. However, users will be responsible for monthly service fees.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX\u2019s Starlink system, known for its rapid setup, has already seen success in Pikangikum First Nation, where it enabled high-speed connectivity within minutes. As part of the agreement, SpaceX will also engage with Indigenous communities to ensure equitable access, creating job and training opportunities within these regions, according to Infrastructure Ontario CEO Michael Lindsay.<\/p>\n<p>This project is part of Ontario\u2019s broader $4-billion initiative to expand high-speed internet across the province.
