The controversy comes after days of scrutiny surrounding the recently renovated pool near the Lincoln Memorial, where peeling blue paint, algae growth, and visible maintenance issues have raised questions about the costly refurbishment project.<\/p>\n
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that vandals had intentionally damaged both the Reflecting Pool and surrounding grounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had some real problems with vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool,\u201d Trump wrote, alleging that individuals had destroyed grass near the site and damaged the newly installed interior surface.<\/p>\n
The president also suggested that chemicals may have been deliberately used to damage the project, comparing the incident to a separate investigation involving markings discovered on the National Mall.<\/p>\n
However, no public evidence has been presented to substantiate the allegations, and agencies responsible for the area, including the United States Park Police, the National Park Service, and the United States Department of the Interior, had not immediately commented on the claims.<\/p>\n
According to reports, Park Police arrested an individual on Friday who was allegedly observed peeling paint from the pool. While that incident may explain some localized damage, it does not account for broader issues that have emerged, including widespread paint separation and a significant algae bloom that turned the water green.<\/p>\n
The Reflecting Pool renovation was undertaken as part of preparations for America\u2019s 250th anniversary celebrations.
