The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has on Wednesday<\/p>\n
denounced the killings in the South-East.<\/p>\n
He also appealed for an out-of-court settlement of his ongoing treason trial by the Federal Government, according to The Punch.<\/p>\n
The Igbo factional leader, who was re-arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria in 2021, made the appeal following his appearance for the continuation of his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.<\/p>\n
He was captured in a video on Wednesday, condemning the killings in the South-East which have been linked to the agitation of IPOB for the secession of the Igbos from Nigeria.<\/p>\n
A viral video clip on Wednesday captured KANU denouncing killings in the South-East fuelled by IPOB\u2019s agitation for separation of the Igbo from Nigeria.<\/p>\n
While talking with his lawyers in the presence of newsmen, they emphasized the need for him to speak out against the killings.<\/p>\n
\u201cI condemn any manner of killing. Every manner of killing, I condemn in its entirety.\u201d, Kanu said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want people to understand that IPOB was founded on a non-violent principle and we maintain that up till this very day. Some of these soldiers, we\u2019re told, are also our people. And the families are now in mourning. All the making of young widows is condemned in its entirety. I don\u2019t want it, I don\u2019t want anybody to die.\u201d, the IPOB leader further stated.<\/p>\n
Kanu said the aim of IPOB is to fight for freedom and called on those perpetrating the killings in the region to focus on achieving the objective.<\/p>\n
During the court proceedings, Kanu\u2019s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, on his behalf, told the court that his client wants an out-of-court settlement.<\/p>\n
Ejimakor made the complaint that the Department of State Services, which has been keeping Kanu in custody, had not complied fully with the court\u2019s order to allow the legal team unfettered and free access to the defendant in order to prepare him for his trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
