    Travis Kelce has expanded his sports business portfolio after purchasing a minority ownership stake in Major League Baseball franchise Cleveland Guardians.

    The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Ohio native confirmed the investment as he continues to build his presence beyond football. Kelce joins a growing list of professional athletes investing in major sports franchises, including teammate Patrick Mahomes, who already owns stakes in multiple professional teams.

    Speaking to ESPN, Kelce described the move as a way to give back to his hometown roots in Cleveland.

    “I have so much love for this city,” Kelce said. “I’m just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic.”

    Kelce, who grew up in Cleveland Heights and later played college football at the University of Cincinnati, said his upbringing shaped both his work ethic and appreciation for community.

    The NFL star also revealed that baseball was originally his first sporting passion before eventually pursuing football professionally. Instead of becoming a Major League Baseball player, Kelce went on to establish himself as one of the most successful tight ends in NFL history.

    The investment mirrors the path of Patrick Mahomes, who became one of the youngest part-owners in professional sports when he acquired a stake in MLB’s Kansas City Royals in 2020. Mahomes also owns a minority share in MLS club Sporting Kansas City.

    Kelce emphasized that observing successful ownership and strong team culture during his NFL career influenced his decision to join the Guardians ownership group.

    “I’ve been lucky enough to have a front-row seat to good ownership in my career,” Kelce explained. “The best teams prioritize culture. Everyone is there to play their role, and right now, I’m here to observe, learn, and support the team and the city where I can.”

    The announcement comes as Kelce approaches the later stages of his legendary football career. The 36-year-old is preparing for another NFL season with the Chiefs as he aims to secure a fourth Super Bowl championship and a 12th Pro Bowl selection.
