    Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are set to celebrate the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago with the help of some of the world’s biggest music and entertainment stars.

    The dedication ceremony on Thursday will feature performances and appearances from Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Bono and Christina Aguilera, alongside a distinguished guest list that includes former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

    Both Barack and Michelle Obama are expected to deliver remarks during the invitation-only event, which will be livestreamed to audiences around the world. The ceremony marks the beginning of a weekend of celebrations surrounding the official opening of the Obama Presidential Center, which welcomes the public on Juneteenth.

    The event will also feature appearances by a host of acclaimed entertainers, including Common, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Marc Anthony and The Roots.

    According to Valerie Jarrett, the celebration is designed to inspire visitors and reflect the values that shaped the Obama presidency.

    The $850 million Obama Presidential Center is located in Chicago’s historic Jackson Park on the city’s South Side, close to where Obama launched his political career and lived before entering the White House.

    The nearly 20-acre campus includes a landmark museum dedicated to Obama’s personal journey and presidency, along with community-focused facilities such as a public library branch, athletic center, basketball courts, playgrounds and public gathering spaces.

    Officials expect the center to become one of Chicago’s most popular attractions, drawing more than one million visitors annually. Interest has already been exceptionally strong, with general admission tickets sold out through the end of October.

    Notably absent from the guest list is Donald Trump, who previously criticized the project on social media earlier this year.

    The opening of the Obama Presidential Center marks a major milestone for the Obama Foundation and creates a lasting institution dedicated to civic engagement, leadership development and the legacy of America’s first Black president.

    Inside the $850 Million Obama Presidential Center: Chicago Prepares for Historic Juneteenth Opening

    The highly anticipated Obama Presidential Center is set to open its doors in Chicago later this month, offering visitors an immersive look into the life, presidency, and legacy of former U.S. President Barack Obama. Located on Chicago’s South Side, the sprawling campus is expected to attract up to one million visitors annually and become one of the city’s most significant cultural destinations.

    Newly released footage provides a first glimpse inside the nearly 20-acre complex, which features a state-of-the-art museum, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, a full-size basketball court, public art installations, green spaces, and community gathering areas designed to inspire civic engagement.

    According to Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett, the center was designed as more than just a museum. She described it as a “living, breathing legacy” intended to encourage visitors to bring positive change back to their communities.

    The campus officially opens to the public during a three-day Juneteenth celebration from June 19 to June 21. Organizers have planned a free open-house-style weekend featuring live entertainment, food vendors, family activities, fan zones with Chicago sports teams, storytelling events, and community programming. Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Barack Obama are both expected to participate in the opening festivities.

    Although general access to most of the campus will be free, tickets for the museum’s opening weekend have already sold out, highlighting the intense public interest surrounding the project.

    The approximately $850 million development showcases both the political achievements and personal journey of America’s first Black president. Visitors will find campaign memorabilia, presidential artifacts, and an extensive exhibit dedicated to Obama’s years in the White House, including a replica of the Oval Office.

    The center also breaks new ground as the first fully digital presidential museum of its kind. Rather than relying heavily on traditional document displays, visitors will experience interactive technology, multimedia presentations, and hands-on exhibits that explore key moments from Obama’s presidency, election campaigns, and personal life.

    One of the museum’s most popular attractions is expected to be the collection of iconic outfits worn by Michelle Obama. The display includes several memorable dresses from significant moments in American political history, including the black-and-red Narciso Rodriguez dress she wore on Election Night in 2008.

    Museum admission will cost $30 for adults, with discounted rates available for Illinois residents and children. Several groups, including Illinois teachers, veterans, active-duty military personnel, and Chicago first responders, will receive free admission. Illinois residents will also enjoy free museum access every Tuesday.

    The Obama Presidential Center represents the culmination of more than a decade of planning and development since Obama selected his hometown of Chicago as the site for the landmark project. Beyond preserving history, the center aims to serve as a hub for education, community engagement, and leadership development for future generations.
