    The situation in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, remains dire, with emergency workers sifting through the debris from Israeli airstrikes that struck the city on Thursday. Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the attacks, which he said killed 22 civilians and injured 117 others without prior warning. Israel has yet to comment on the strikes.

    The IDF launched a ground invasion into southern Lebanon last month in response to ongoing rocket fire from Hezbollah. The current escalation comes after Hezbollah and Israel began near-daily cross-border skirmishes following an attack by Hamas on southern Israeli communities last October.

    UNIFIL reported additional incidents, including the destruction of barriers by Israeli military vehicles at a UN site in Labbouneh, further escalating tensions. The organization described these actions as a “serious development.”

    Prime Minister Mikati condemned Friday’s attack on UN peacekeepers, calling it “a crime directed at the international community,” and urging for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Government officials have contacted over 2,300 individuals to offer seats on commercial flights arranged for their safe return.

    As the situation intensifies, the United Nations International Organization for Migration reported that over 1,600 individuals have lost their lives, and approximately 6,000 have been injured in the ongoing violence in Lebanon.

    Tragically, Tabaja lost both of his parents last week when their vehicle was struck by an Israeli bomb. He shared that his family has been informed they might be able to board a flight on Sunday but are still awaiting confirmation. While he expressed gratitude for the Canadian government’s efforts, he emphasized that more needs to be done to ensure the safety and rescue of those still trapped in the war-torn region.
