This awards ceremony will showcase inspiring stories of resilience, innovation, leadership, and success, highlighting the invaluable impact of immigrants on Manitoba’s social, cultural, and economic fabric.

    Why THE MIEMAS?
    Immigrants bring a wealth of talent, culture, and perspectives that enrich our communities. THE MIEMAS aims to recognize individuals who have excelled in various sectors within our province, such as business, arts, education, community service, and more.
    Nomination Process
    • Nominating someone, including yourself, for THE MIEMAS is straightforward and open to everyone:
    • Prepare a Profile/Bio: Submit the nominee’s detailed profile or biography. This should include their achievements, contributions, and relevant personal stories showcasing their impact.
    • Contact Information: Include the nominee’s email address and contact phone number to facilitate communication.

    • Nomination submission deadline: On or before Tuesday 15th October 2024
    Review Process: All nominations will be forwarded to our esteemed review panel of community leaders and experts in various fields. The panel will carefully evaluate each submission based on the following criteria:
    1. Impact on Community: Degree of positive impact the nominee has had on their community.
    2. Innovation and Creativity: Demonstrate innovative approaches in their field or community involvement.
    3. Leadership, Mentorship and Support for Others: Evidence of leadership qualities and the ability to inspire others. Participation in mentoring and supporting other individuals or groups.
    4. Personal Story of Resilience: The nominee’s journey, including challenges overcome and personal growth.
    5. Professional Excellence: Achievements and recognition in their professional field.
    6. Volunteerism and Community Service: Involvement in volunteer work and community service.
    7. Cultural Preservation and Promotion: Efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
    8. Sustainability Efforts: Contributions towards environmental sustainability and community well-being.
    9. Economic Empowerment: Contributions to economic empowerment, such as hiring members of the immigrant community, supporting immigrant-owned businesses, or creating economic opportunities for others.
    10. Immigration and Settlement Support: Efforts to assist immigrants, particularly those transitioning from Africa, in settling in Manitoba, including support with housing, employment, education, and integration into the community.
    Shortlisting: After reviewing all nominations, the panel will create a shortlist of nominees invited to attend the awards ceremony, where the winners will be announced.

    In addition to submitting nominations, we encourage everyone to participate in this celebration by attending the event. Organizations and businesses can also contribute by featuring THE MIEMAS flyer on their websites, social media platforms, and newsletters, helping to spread the word about this important event.

  • Canada Day Celebrations: Concerts, Speeches, and Fireworks Nationwide

    The Maple Leaf is flying on every lamppost, flagpole, and patio in downtown Ottawa as the national capital joins other cities in welcoming thousands of revelers for Canada Day.

    A number of city streets are closed around Parliament Hill and the LeBreton Flats Park, where the stage for this year’s main ceremony is set up. The national celebration is set to start at noon Eastern Time and includes performances by Bedouin Soundclash and Montreal artist Marie-Mai.

    People in downtown Ottawa will also see a special fly-past in honour of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 100th anniversary, featuring the Snowbirds aerobatics team. The celebrations will be capped off by a fireworks display at around 10 p.m., also at LeBreton Flats.

    Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office says he won’t be attending events in Ottawa, but will instead be in St. John’s, N.L., where he’s taking part in a ceremony to mark 100 years of the Newfoundland National War Memorial and the interment of the remains of a First World War soldier.

    This year’s anniversary airshow features a series of aircraft that date back to the Second World War, along with planes and helicopters the Air Force is flying today. People will also get a glimpse of the RCAF’s future, courtesy of the U.S. Navy, which has flown in several of its own aircraft including a P-8 Poseidon surveillance plane. Canada signed a $4.3-billion deal to buy a fleet of P-8s last November, and they’re set to arrive in 2026.

    On Parliament Hill, where the main ceremonies had been held in years before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Air Force pipes and drums band and the air cadets bands will perform throughout the day, and the SkyHawks parachute team is set to drop by at 3 p.m. Athletes who are representing Team Canada at the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris this summer will also be part of the events at LeBreton Flats.

    Elsewhere, ceremonies, shows, and other festivities are set to take place in cities across the country.
