Cheney’s outspoken opposition to Trump is central to her alliance with Harris, as both aim to draw support from disaffected Republicans and independents in swing counties.

    Harris Courts Republican and Independent Voters in Key Suburbs

    Harris’ campaign is focused on persuading undecided voters, re-engaging disillusioned Democrats, and attracting Republicans who have grown wary of Trump’s influence. Suburban counties like Waukesha, Wisconsin, underscore the importance of this outreach—where Nikki Haley received over 9,000 votes even after exiting the race. In 2020, Wisconsin was decided by just 20,000 votes, making every small gain critical for both parties. Early in-person voting in Wisconsin begins Tuesday, adding urgency to the vice president’s efforts.

    Harris’ growing emphasis on Trump’s behavior aligns with Cheney’s warnings about the former president’s threat to democratic norms. Both have repeatedly highlighted Trump’s role in the January 6 insurrection, which Cheney has described as a direct assault on democracy.

    Harris’ collaboration with Cheney is part of a broader strategy to attract Republicans disenchanted with Trump. More than 100 former GOP officials recently endorsed Harris at a rally in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania—a symbolic location known for General George Washington’s famous Revolutionary War crossing. Speaking at the event, Harris urged GOP voters to make a “patriotic choice” by supporting Democrats in the upcoming election.

    At her rallies, Harris continues to hammer Trump for his false claims about the 2020 election and his attempts to downplay the violent events of January 6. She warns voters of the dangers posed by another Trump presidency, calling him “unstable” and “unhinged.”

    “I believe Donald Trump is an unserious man,” Harris said in a recent speech, “but the consequences of him returning to the White House are brutally serious.”

    Meanwhile, Trump has attempted to minimize the January 6 riot, recently characterizing it as “a day of love.”

    “In a small town, you don’t focus on politics—you take care of your neighbors and mind your own business,” Walz says in the ad, which criticizes Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, for being self-interested. The ad will air across more than 500 rural radio stations in key swing states, including Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

    With just three weeks until Election Day, the Harris-Walz ticket is making a concerted effort to sway rural voters, who traditionally lean Republican.
