    Kansas City Shooting Leaves One Dead, Five Injured Near World Cup Host Stadium

    One person was killed and five others were wounded in a shooting Friday night in Kansas City, authorities said, in an incident that occurred just miles from the stadium hosting FIFA World Cup matches this summer.

    According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers heard gunfire shortly before 10:30 p.m. local time and responded to East 19th Street between The Paseo and Vine Street.

    At the scene, officers found two adult women who were conscious and alert, along with an unresponsive adult man. The man, identified as David E. Beck III, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two women were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

    Police said three additional victims later arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle. They included a man and a woman listed in stable condition, while another man remained in critical condition.

    Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were gathered along 19th Street when multiple individuals opened fire.

    “All of the victims appear to have been standing in this vicinity when they were struck,” police said in a statement.

    Detectives are continuing to process evidence and interview witnesses. No suspects have been arrested, and authorities have not yet announced a possible motive.

    The shooting occurred roughly seven miles from Arrowhead Stadium, which is serving as a FIFA World Cup venue under the name Kansas City Stadium. The facility is scheduled to host an international match between Ecuador and Curaçao on Saturday.

    Kansas City officials noted that the city currently has an unprecedented law enforcement presence because of World Cup-related security operations. Police departments from across the Midwest have assisted local authorities in securing tournament events.

    Kansas City Police Captain Jake Becchina said the city has deployed its largest-ever police presence for a major event.

    Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department’s anonymous tips hotline. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
