ABORU, LAGOS — One person has died and two others were rescued after a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition collapsed in Aboru, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident happened around midnight at No. 42 Governors Road, Aboru, according to information released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Emergency teams responded after distress call
LASEMA said its Alpha Eagle Response Team was dispatched from the Cappa, Oshodi Response Unit at about 12:56 a.m. following a distress call. Responders found workers trapped beneath the rubble and immediately began search and rescue operations.
Two adult males were rescued alive during the operation. Personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service provided first aid before the survivors were taken to a nearby health facility for further medical attention.
One adult male was recovered dead from beneath the collapsed structure.
LASEMA warns against unsafe demolition work
Preliminary findings indicated that the building was being manually demolished when it collapsed. LASEMA urged property owners, developers and contractors to follow building and demolition regulations and engage qualified professionals.
The agency also advised residents to report unsafe building activity through Lagos emergency numbers 767 and 112.
