A United Airlines Boeing 787 en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai was forced to turn around mid-flight after a pilot realized they had forgotten their passport. Flight 198, which departed LAX at 2 p.m. on Saturday with 257 passengers and 13 crew members, reversed course two hours into the journey and landed in San Francisco around 5 p.m., according to FlightAware.
United Airlines confirmed the incident, stating, “The pilot did not have their passport onboard.” A replacement crew was arranged, allowing the flight to continue to Shanghai later that evening. Passengers received meal vouchers and compensation, ultimately arriving in China about six hours behind schedule.
