Ukraine’s Massive Drone Attack Disrupts Travel in Moscow

Ukraine launched its most extensive drone assault on Moscow early Tuesday, deploying at least 91 drones that led to one fatality, multiple fires, and significant flight disruptions. Russian authorities reported downing a total of 337 Ukrainian drones across various regions, including 126 in Kursk, where Ukrainian forces have been retreating.

The attack coincided with a Ukrainian delegation’s visit to Saudi Arabia for potential ceasefire talks and intensified Russian military maneuvers aiming to encircle Ukrainian troops in Kursk. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that air defenses successfully intercepted the unprecedented UAV assault on the capital.

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported two fatalities, three injuries, and evacuations in the Ramenskoye district following structural damage to residential buildings. Despite the attack, daily life in Moscow remained largely unaffected.

Russia’s aviation regulator temporarily shut down all four of Moscow’s airports and additional facilities in Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod for safety measures. The escalation comes as Russia bolsters its electronic and air defense systems in response to Ukraine’s persistent drone offensives targeting strategic infrastructure.

The ongoing conflict, marked by trench warfare and drone innovations, has seen both nations leveraging UAVs for reconnaissance and attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned Ukraine’s strikes on civilian infrastructure as terrorism, vowing retaliation. Meanwhile, Moscow continues to thrive economically amid record defense spending.
