U.S. Resumes Military Aid to Ukraine After Saudi Talks Amid Ceasefire Proposal

The United States has agreed to immediately reinstate military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following discussions in Saudi Arabia, where Kyiv signaled its willingness to accept a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire with Russia, according to a joint statement.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the proposal would now be presented to Moscow, placing the decision in Russia’s hands. “The President wanted this war to end yesterday… So our hope is that the Russians will answer ‘yes’ as quickly as possible, so we can get to the second phase of this, which is real negotiations,” Rubio said, referring to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though present in Saudi Arabia, did not participate in the talks but described the ceasefire proposal as a “positive” step, emphasizing that it would encompass the entire frontline, including aerial and naval engagements.

In addition to military aid, Washington and Kyiv pledged to finalize a comprehensive agreement on Ukraine’s critical mineral resources, a deal that had been stalled due to tensions between Trump and Zelenskyy during their previous White House meeting. Zelenskyy confirmed both nations would work toward concluding the agreement.

Tuesday’s meeting in Jeddah marked the first formal engagement between the U.S. and Ukraine since the heated Oval Office dispute on February 28. Ukrainian officials aimed to restore relations with the Trump administration and secure the resumption of military aid, with U.S. officials suggesting that positive outcomes from the Saudi talks could lead to a swift end to the suspension.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has maintained its conditions for peace, demanding Ukraine abandon its NATO aspirations and recognize Russian-occupied territories. Russian forces continue to hold battlefield momentum, particularly in eastern Donetsk, despite significant losses. Ukraine, in response, has heavily invested in advanced drone technology, striking deep into Russian territory.
