Two Charged in $60,000 Fraud Case at Winnipeg Legion Branch

A 70-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman from Winnipeg Beach have been charged with theft and fraud following a Winnipeg police investigation into suspicious financial activities at a Royal Canadian Legion branch in the city’s Weston neighbourhood.

The pair, who held volunteer operational roles with access to the legion’s bank account and signing authority, allegedly diverted approximately $60,000 into their joint account between May 2020 and April 2023 for personal use. The man is also accused of unlawfully receiving an honorarium.

Police arrested both individuals at their residence on April 30. They were released and are scheduled to appear in court.
