Trump Signs Executive Orders Advancing Drone Security and Supersonic Flight, Targeting China’s Tech Influence

U.S. President Donald Trump signed three executive orders Friday to advance national airspace security and accelerate development in aerial innovation, including commercial drones, electric air taxis, and supersonic aircraft. The orders clear a regulatory path for drones to fly beyond the operator’s visual line of sight, paving the way for scaled-up drone delivery services.

In a move aimed at curbing reliance on Chinese drone manufacturers like DJI and Autel Robotics, the orders also promote U.S.-made drone technologies. Trump’s directives include launching a federal task force to strengthen airspace surveillance, expand drone countermeasures, and support law enforcement in managing aerial threats—especially ahead of major events like the Olympics and World Cup.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been ordered to lift the 1973 ban on overland supersonic flight, conditional on noise-reduction compliance to avoid sonic booms. This development boosts companies like Boom Supersonic, whose CEO Blake Scholl hailed the decision as the start of a “new era of commercial flight.”

The new policies position the U.S. to reclaim dominance in advanced aviation, strengthen airspace sovereignty, and accelerate innovation across next-generation aerospace technologies.
