Train Derailment in Belleville Disrupts Traffic but Poses No Environmental Threat

A six-car train derailment in Belleville, Ont., temporarily blocked a street but caused no injuries, according to police and Canadian National (CN).

The derailed train obstructed College Street E. just west of the Airport Parkway, prompting Belleville Police Services to urge people to avoid the area.

CN police, responsible for safeguarding CN property and surrounding areas, responded to the scene, Belleville police reported.

The incident occurred near Belleville’s passenger rail station, approximately three kilometers northeast of the city’s core.

According to a CN statement to CBC, the six railcars derailed inside the Belleville railyard, blocking a public crossing.

“All cars were upright, and there were no injuries, no dangerous goods, and no fires involved,” the statement confirmed.

The public crossing has since reopened, while the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
