The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Central Circle, will investigate the tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, where 12 passengers were struck by the Karnataka Express while standing on the tracks. The accident occurred between Pardhade and Maheji railway stations near Pachora, over 400 km from Mumbai, officials confirmed.
Manoj Arora, CRS Central Circle, will visit the accident site on Thursday morning. Mr. Arora, who also holds additional charge as CRS Western Circle, stated that passenger and eyewitness accounts will be recorded as part of the probe.
“We will invite passengers and eyewitnesses to share their version of the incident,” said Mr. Arora.
The CRS, operating under the Ministry of Civil Aviation as per the Railways Act of 1989, is tasked with investigating train safety and operational issues. A Bhusawal division railway official mentioned that the CRS would also interview crew members from the trains involved.
The tragedy unfolded when 12 passengers of the Pushpak Express, disembarking on the tracks due to a rumored fire, were run over by the Delhi-bound Karnataka Express. The incident also left 15 others injured.
