A 21-year-old international student from India has died from a gunshot wound after being struck by a stray bullet during a shooting in Hamilton, Ontario, according to local police.
Harsimrat Randhawa, a student at Mohawk College, was described as an “innocent bystander” in a tragic turn of events. She was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work near Upper James Street and South Bend Road when gunfire erupted around 7:30 p.m.
Police revealed that Randhawa was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that video footage showed a passenger in a black Mercedes SUV firing at individuals in a white sedan.
Following the incident, the white sedan fled north on Upper James while the Mercedes took off west on South Bend Road. Bullets also struck a nearby home on Allenby Avenue, though no other injuries were reported.
Mohawk College released a statement expressing deep sorrow over Randhawa’s death, emphasizing the impact of her loss on the college community and pledging support for her friends and family during this difficult time.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam or security footage from the area between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. to come forward as investigations continue.
