Toronto Argonauts Re-Sign CFL All-Star Janarion Grant; Redblacks Confirm 2025 Coaching Staff

The Toronto Argonauts have secured the return of standout special teams player Janarion Grant, the CFL team announced Friday.

Grant led the league in 2024 with 989 punt return yards, averaging 14.8 yards per return and scoring three touchdowns in his first season with Toronto. He also ranked fourth in kick return yards with 1,000, including a 103-yard touchdown.

A two-time CFL all-star, Grant earned his third Grey Cup ring when Toronto defeated Winnipeg 41-24 in November. The 31-year-old from Trilby, Fla., spent four seasons with Winnipeg before joining the Argos, winning Grey Cups in 2019 and 2021 with the Blue Bombers.

Across 57 career regular season games with Winnipeg and Toronto, Grant has recorded 10 punt return touchdowns and two kick return scores.

“Last year Janarion put the special in special teams,” Argos general manager Mike (Pinball) Clemons said. “He’s not just effective, but exhilarating, increasing the blood flow in your veins. He is sure to lift Argo fans out of their seats once again, bringing a phenomenal five return touchdowns into this season.”

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Redblacks have finalized their 2025 coaching staff, making key adjustments to Bob Dyce’s lineup.

Rick Campbell, the former head coach, returns as special teams coordinator, while William Fields joins as defensive coordinator after serving as co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach for the Grey Cup champion Argonauts last season.

Offensive coordinator Tommy Condell also returns after helping Ottawa rank second in passing yards (5,455) in 2024. Additional staff members include assistant head coach and linebackers coach Deion Melvin, running backs coach Nate Taylor, offensive line coach Mike Gibson, defensive line coach Kai Ellis, defensive backs coach Myron Lewis, and coaching assistant Isaiah Johns.

Dyce, entering his third season as Redblacks head coach, led Ottawa to its first playoff appearance since 2018 last year.
