Tom Cruise paid tribute to his late friend and Top Gun co-star Val Kilmer during a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Speaking at the Paramount Pictures presentation, Cruise reflected on Kilmer’s legacy, calling him an admired actor and cherished friend.
“I can’t tell you how much I admired his work, how much I thought of him as a human being,” Cruise said, adding how honored he felt to have Kilmer return for Top Gun: Maverick. The actor also requested a moment of silence, which the audience at Caesars Palace respectfully observed.
Kilmer, who passed away earlier this week at age 65 due to pneumonia, starred alongside Cruise in the 1986 classic Top Gun as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. He reprised the role in the 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
Cruise, at CinemaCon to promote Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, concluded his tribute with heartfelt words: “Thank you, Val. I wish you well on your next journey.”
