Matthew and Brady Tkachuk each netted two goals as the United States routed Finland 6-1 in their 4 Nations Face-Off opener Thursday in Montreal.
Matt Boldy and Jake Guentzel added a goal and an assist apiece, while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 20 shots for the Americans. Zach Werenski tallied three assists, and Jack Eichel contributed two of his own. Matthew Tkachuk rounded off a three-point performance with an assist.
Henri Jokiharju scored Finland’s lone goal, with Juuse Saros making 26 saves in net.
The United States tops the standings with three points following their commanding regulation win. Canada sits in second with two points after defeating Sweden 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday. The Swedes hold one point, while Finland remains scoreless.
The Americans face Canada on Saturday night, following a matinee between Sweden and Finland. The tournament moves to Boston on Monday for the final games before the championship on February 20.
