Bayern Munich has suffered a major blow with the loss of Canadian defender Alphonso Davies, who is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury occurred during Canada’s 2-1 victory over the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League, leaving both his club and country without their star left back for months.
Adding to Bayern’s woes, central defender Dayot Upamecano also sustained a knee injury while playing for France, sidelining him for several weeks. Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that the club must now rally together to compensate for the defensive setbacks.
The injuries could lead to increased playing time for Bayern’s depth options, including Kim Min-jae, Eric Dier, Raphael Guerreiro, and Hiroki Ito. Bayern is set to face St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday before taking on Inter Milan in the Champions League quarterfinals next month.
