The Rise of Humanoid Robots: AI-Powered Machines Poised to Enter Homes and Workplaces

With Google unveiling its latest humanoid robot, AI-powered machines may soon become a common presence in daily life. Futurist and WAYE founder Sinead Bovell predicts a rapid shift in robotics, expecting humanoid robots to enter the workforce and even homes within the next few years.

Bovell attributes this acceleration to advancements in AI-powered language models, enabling robots to understand and respond to human speech more effectively. “Now we can talk to them,” she explains, highlighting how commands like “pick up that coffee cup” will soon be seamlessly executed.

While humanoid robots will vary in appearance based on function, their human-like design is intentional—our world is built for humans, and roboticists believe machines should adapt to existing environments rather than requiring new infrastructure.

In the workplace, humanoid robots could help address labor shortages. Some experts predict one billion humanoid robots by 2035, though Bovell suggests the figure will likely be closer to a million. Still, their presence in industries will surge within three to four years, with home integration following soon after. Within a decade, she anticipates humanoid robots becoming as common in households as smartphones are today.
