Tereza Vanišová’s Late Heroics Propel Ottawa Charge to Stunning Win Over Boston Fleet

Tereza Vanišová delivered two goals in just 32 seconds late in the third period, lifting the Ottawa Charge to a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Boston Fleet on Saturday in St. Louis.

The win propels Ottawa (10-11-1-4) into the fourth and final playoff spot with four games remaining in the regular season. Vanišová, the team’s leading scorer with 14 goals, has been on fire, netting six in her last four outings.

Boston (8-8-6-4) led for most of the game after Susanna Tapani capitalized on an Ottawa turnover, scoring unassisted on a wrist shot at 8:25 of the first period. A goaltending duel between former Northeastern teammates Aerin Frankel and Gwenyth Philips kept the score unchanged through two periods.

With just over four minutes left, Frankel made a sprawling kick save on Gabbie Hughes, then denied Danielle Serdachny with a glove stop seconds later. But Vanišová finally broke through, tying the game at 1-1 after rifling a shot past Frankel off a Boston turnover with 3:32 left.

Just 32 seconds later, she completed the comeback, poking in a loose puck at the net for the game-winner, ending Boston’s streak of dominance over Ottawa. The Fleet had won all four previous meetings this season, with four of the five matchups now decided by a single goal.

Boston, now 7-2 when scoring first, suffered just its second loss of the season when holding a first-period lead.
