Peel police issued a public safety alert Monday night after weapons were reportedly seen during a protest near the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in Brampton. The alert, shared on X (formerly Twitter), advised residents to avoid Gore Road near Tyler Avenue, where protesters were gathered and blocking traffic. Peel police’s public order unit was deployed to ensure safety, labeling the gathering as an “unlawful assembly” and instructing protesters to disperse or face arrest.
The demonstration escalated when a car attempting to cross the intersection of Gore Road and Don Minaker Drive was reportedly kicked by a protester after the driver honked at the crowd. Protesters had marched from the temple, disrupting traffic in the area. Toronto police also joined Peel police in responding to the situation.
The protest occurred just hours after Peel police announced charges against three men involved in a series of violent confrontations between groups in Brampton and Mississauga the previous day. These incidents took place near the same Hindu temple and a Sikh gurdwara, contributing to growing concerns around public safety at community demonstrations.
This recent string of protests highlights rising tensions in the region, with local authorities taking heightened measures to manage public gatherings and prevent further escalations.
