Taylor Swift Regains Full Ownership of Music Catalogue After Six-Year Battle

Taylor Swift now officially owns her entire music catalogue, marking the culmination of a six-year battle for control of her master recordings. In a heartfelt letter shared on her website, the Grammy-winning artist announced that she has acquired all rights to her music — including albums, music videos, concert films, artwork, and unreleased songs — from Shamrock Capital with “no strings attached, no partnership, full autonomy.”

Swift praised Shamrock Capital for offering her the chance to buy back her masters and described the deal as respectful and meaningful. The purchase was made possible by the unprecedented success of her Eras Tour, which she credits her fans for making possible.

The dispute over her master recordings began in 2019, when Scooter Braun and Shamrock acquired the rights to her first six albums. Unable to reclaim them then, Swift launched her re-recording campaign with “Taylor’s Version” releases of “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now,” and “1989,” each including previously unreleased songs.

In her update, Swift shared that while “Reputation” is still being re-recorded, her 2006 debut album is already complete. She hinted that both albums may be re-released when the timing feels right, not out of loss but as a celebration.

Her re-recordings have found massive success, with “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” becoming her 13th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, surpassing the performance of its original release.
