SunFed Cucumbers Recalled in U.S. and Canada Over Salmonella Concerns

Caution urged as contaminated produce linked to multiple illnesses across North America.

SunFed Produce brand cucumbers have been recalled in the United States and Canada due to potential salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced Thursday that all sizes of SunFed cucumbers, packaged in bulk cardboard containers, generic white boxes, or black plastic crates labeled with the grower’s name, Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. (Sonora, Mexico), are affected.

Timeline and Distribution

The recall applies to cucumbers sold between October 12 and November 26. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the products were distributed across 26 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.

The cucumbers were sold through food service providers and retail outlets, and the FDA cautions that they may have reached consumers in areas beyond the listed regions.

Illness Reports and Investigation

The recall follows an FDA notification to SunFed about illnesses linked to the contaminated cucumbers. Between October 12 and November 15, 68 cases of salmonella infection were reported across 19 U.S. states, with 18 hospitalizations. No fatalities have been reported.

The CFIA has launched a food safety investigation and warned that additional recall alerts may be issued if needed. Canadian officials encourage consumers to sign up for food recall notifications to stay informed.

What Consumers Should Do

If you purchased SunFed cucumbers or suspect you may have consumed contaminated produce:

Dispose of the product immediately or return it to the retailer.

Wash and sanitize surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the cucumbers.

Monitor for symptoms of salmonella infection, including diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.

Those experiencing severe symptoms, particularly young children, the elderly, or individuals with weakened immune systems, should seek medical attention promptly.

About Salmonella Risks

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause serious illness. While most recover without treatment, vulnerable populations face higher risks of severe complications.
