At least 14 people were killed and 37 wounded, including five children, in Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s eastern city of Dobropillia and a settlement in the Kharkiv region overnight, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported on Saturday.
Russian forces launched ballistic missiles, multiple rockets, and drones on Dobropillia, damaging eight multi-storey buildings and 30 vehicles. The attack resulted in 11 fatalities, including five children, and left 30 others wounded.
In a separate drone assault on the Kharkiv region, three civilians were killed and seven injured, according to the ministry.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, emphasizing the need for stronger air defenses and harsher sanctions against Russia. “Everything that helps Putin finance the war must collapse,” he stated on Facebook.
The assault followed a major Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s energy and gas infrastructure, the first since the U.S. paused intelligence sharing with Kyiv. Military analysts warn that this suspension could weaken Ukraine’s air defenses as it faces ammunition shortages and struggles to track attacks.
Dobropillia, a city of 28,000 before the war, is located 22 kilometers from the front line near Pokrovsk, which Russian troops have been targeting for weeks. As diplomatic efforts push for peace talks, both sides continue active hostilities to gain a battlefield advantage.
Meanwhile, in Russia, a tank at Surgutneftegaz’s Kirishi oil refinery, one of the country’s largest, was damaged by falling debris during a Ukrainian overnight drone attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry also announced that its forces recaptured three villages in the Kursk region from Ukrainian troops, following Kyiv’s brief incursion into Russian territory last August.
