A Delta Air Lines flight was evacuated on Monday at Orlando International Airport after a fire erupted in one of the aircraft’s engines before takeoff. Delta confirmed there were no injuries among the 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and two pilots aboard Flight 1213, which was bound for Atlanta.
The incident occurred while the Airbus A330 was still at the ramp. Flames were spotted in the tailpipe of one of the engines, prompting the flight crew to initiate an emergency evacuation. The airport’s rescue and firefighting units quickly responded.
Delta stated that the flight crew followed established safety procedures, and maintenance teams are now working to determine the cause of the fire.
This incident adds to a recent string of aviation-related accidents and safety concerns in North America, including a plane crash in Toronto, a collision in Seattle involving a Japan Airlines and Delta plane, and an American Airlines fire in Denver. Despite these events, air travel continues to be statistically one of the safest modes of transportation.
