Passengers were evacuated from a Delta flight at Orlando International Airport after an engine caught fire on the tarmac. Video footage shared on social media showed smoke and flames coming from the right engine of the Airbus A330, as passengers exited the plane using inflatable emergency slides.
Delta flight 1213, bound for Atlanta with 282 passengers and crew, had not yet taken off when the incident occurred. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The aircraft’s emergency response teams quickly assisted, and passengers were evacuated from the plane.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft’s engine caught fire, prompting the evacuation. Emergency crews, including Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting teams, responded immediately. The FAA has announced that it will investigate the incident.
Delta expressed appreciation for passengers’ cooperation and reiterated that safety was its top priority. “Nothing is more important than safety,” the airline said, adding that it was working to get affected passengers to their destinations as soon as possible.
This incident follows a series of high-profile aviation events in North America this year, including the January mid-air collision near Washington, DC, and a February plane crash in Toronto.
