China Southern Airlines has temporarily suspended the planned sale of its entire fleet of Boeing 787-8 aircraft, as tensions escalate between the United States and China over tariff policies.
The airline had announced last November its intention to offload all 10 of its 787-8s, including their associated GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines, and had been seeking proposals for acquisition. The aircraft were originally scheduled for availability starting this year and into 2026.
However, on April 11, China Southern informed the Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange that the divestment has been suspended due to “matters affecting property rights transactions.” The suspension will remain in effect until May 12.
Among the listed jets is the first Boeing 787 delivered to China Southern in 2013, highlighting the historical significance of the fleet. The pause raises further concerns about the impact of geopolitical tensions on commercial aviation and cross-border asset transactions.
