Sri Lanka has taken a major step toward modernizing its tourism sector by partnering with Ant International to introduce Alipay+, a global mobile payment platform. Announced on March 25, 2025, this initiative will enable over 400,000 LANKAQR-enabled merchants to accept payments from tourists using international e-wallets linked to Alipay+.
Alipay+ connects 1.7 billion users across 36 global e-wallets, allowing visitors from key markets—including China, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Italy—to make secure, cashless transactions by scanning LANKAQR codes. The integration aligns with Sri Lanka’s goal of attracting 3 million tourists in 2025 and generating $5 billion in tourism revenue.
This collaboration enhances the country’s digital payment ecosystem, improves convenience for travelers, and strengthens economic ties with international markets. By embracing seamless mobile transactions, Sri Lanka is reinforcing its position as a top-tier, digitally advanced travel destination.
