Atlantic Canada is bracing for a round of wintry weather as snow, freezing rain, and heavy rainfall move through the region to start the new week. A low-pressure system forming off New England is driving waves of moisture northward, with significant impacts expected across the Maritimes and Newfoundland.
Northern New Brunswick is forecast to receive 10-15 cm of snow, with localized higher totals possible in areas like Grand Falls, Bathurst, and Miramichi. Freezing rain will pose a major concern, particularly across inland New Brunswick and western Newfoundland, with risks of tree damage and power outages from heavy ice accretion.
Meanwhile, rain will dominate southern New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and southern Newfoundland. The Bay of Fundy region could see 20-30+ mm of rain, while eastern Newfoundland, including St. John’s and Gander, may receive up to 50 mm through Tuesday.
Although winds remain mild, another weather system could bring more showers mid-week. Temperatures will briefly climb above seasonal norms before colder air returns later next week.
