Colombian pop icon Shakira was forced to cancel her Sunday concert in Lima after being hospitalized with an abdominal condition. The singer shared a statement via Instagram and X, explaining that doctors had advised her against performing.
“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience,” Shakira expressed.
Arriving in Peru on Friday, Shakira was scheduled to perform in Lima on Sunday and Monday as part of her Latin American tour, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. The tour began last week with two successful shows in Brazil.
Fans in Lima gave Shakira a heartfelt welcome upon her arrival. “Thank you for such an emotional welcome, Lima!” she wrote on Instagram Saturday.
In her statement, the singer assured fans that her team is already working on rescheduling the canceled show. “My plan is to perform this show as soon as possible,” she said.
The ongoing tour supports Shakira’s latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, which delves into her personal struggles following her publicized divorce. The album includes the hit track Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, which recently earned her the Best Latin Pop Album award at the 2024 Grammys.
Shakira’s tour will continue across Latin America before heading to Canada and the U.S. in May, with performances scheduled through June.
