Environment Canada has issued warnings for a major ice storm expected to impact communities from Bancroft to Belleville and Brockville this weekend, with widespread power outages and hazardous travel conditions anticipated.
The storm will begin Friday evening, peak overnight, and continue until late Sunday, with freezing rain warnings forecasting up to two centimeters of ice accumulation in affected areas. Some regions could see five to 15 millimeters of freezing rain. The storm may temporarily ease Saturday before transitioning to rain by Sunday afternoon or evening.
A snowfall warning is also in effect for areas north of the freezing rain zone, including Barry’s Bay, Perth, and rural south Ottawa, predicting 10 to 20 centimeters of snow Friday night and Saturday, followed by up to a centimeter of freezing rain on Sunday. Similar conditions are expected in Cornwall, Pembroke, and northern Ottawa, where freezing rain warnings may expand.
Western Quebec is also bracing for slippery conditions, with five centimeters of snow expected Friday night, followed by freezing rain early Sunday. Officials warn of falling tree branches and potential power outages, urging residents to prepare accordingly and postpone non-essential travel.
