World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has announced his withdrawal from The American Express tournament in Palm Desert, California, citing an ongoing recovery from a hand injury sustained during Christmas. The tournament, scheduled for January 16–19, will proceed without Scheffler, who has been sidelined since undergoing minor surgery to repair a glass puncture in his right hand.
The injury occurred while Scheffler was preparing Christmas dinner, forcing him to miss the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. In an Instagram update, the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year stated, “After consulting with my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal.”
Despite this setback, Scheffler remains optimistic about returning to competition at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, slated for January 30.
Scheffler is coming off an extraordinary season, during which he secured nine worldwide titles, including victories at the Masters, The Players Championship, and the FedEx Cup. His dominance earned him PGA Tour Player of the Year honors and made him the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2009 to hold the No. 1 world ranking for an entire calendar year.
Fans and analysts alike will eagerly await Scheffler’s return to the course as he looks to continue his remarkable career trajectory.
